Below are resources I use to understand being LBGTQAI+ and living in modern times. We face so many struggles, yet our roots, the pionners who changed the world, fought and died for us are important to study an understand.
1940-1950
TURING
Everything from the phone in your pocket to advanced AI came from this one gay man, the father of cybernetics. To understand our community, we most go back to some of the earliest and brightest minds, prosecuted while saving the world.
1960-1970
STONEWALL
The first gay pride was a riot. Stonewall was an important moment for our community.
1980-1990
AIDS
Before you can even think about LGBTQAI+ people, you have to consider AIDS and the profound impact it had on our community. Nothing sums up this time more than Larry Kramers's speech regarding infighting within ActUp during the height of the Crisis.
1990-1995
DRAG
Regardless of how you think about modern drag, understanding ballroom culture and drag is essential to finding strength.
1995-2000
SHEPARD
On the heels of HIV therapies and freedom within clubs and safe spaces, our world was rocked by the brutal beating and killing of one of our own.
